How to reach Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey SanctuaryThere are two major airlines that fly from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. Malaysian Airlines (MAS) provide four flights from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan daily. Guests are able to choose the morning flight (deoarting at 7.30am, arriving Sandakan at 8.10am), noon flight (departing at 12.55pm, arriving at 1.35pm), afternoon flight (departing at 3.20pm, arriving at 4.00pm) or the evening flight (departing at 6.30pm, arriving at 7.10pm). Alternatively, guest can choose to take the Air Asia airlines that fly into Sandakan from Kota Kinabalu. Two different schedule is available: departing Kota Kinabalu airport at 12 noon and arriving in Sandakan at 12.45pm or an evening flight from KK airport at 7.10pm and arriving in Sandakan at 7.55pm. However, it is recommended for guests to take the morning or noon flight to be able to view the proboscis monkeys’ feeding time at 11.30 am or 2.30pm.
The sanctuary is located at the center of the mangrove forest along the coastal land near Kampung Samawang in Labuk Bay, Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia. From the airport in Sandakan, it’s 38KM away and takes about an hour to get there, part of the trip will be through the gravel roads and jeep tracks of plantation estates. To get there, travel along Jalan Labuk going to Kota Kinabalu and turn off to SPS 3 at the junction at KM23 (adjacent to the Consolidated Sabah Farms). The sanctuary is located 15KM along the gravel road from there.
Guests in Sandakan Town can always request our sanctuary’s transport services. 8am (Daytrippers) for the morning session and 1pm for the afternoon session. (The time taken for the journey to and fro is about 4 and a half hours).
